Warmth in the Storm: A FUEL Community Project Winter Clothing Drive

Winter storms can be relentless, and for our unhoused neighbors in Marin County, the cold and rain bring real and immediate challenges. During a brief break in a weeklong storm, FUEL Community Project gathered volunteers and community partners to host a winter clothing drive and distribution at the sanctioned homeless camp in San Rafael, California.

Under a simple 10x10 pop-up canopy, we created a free distribution booth focused on warmth, dignity, and connection. What began with collecting items from our own closets turned into a powerful reminder of what community can accomplish when people show up for one another.

Meeting Real Needs with Practical Support

Volunteers distributed warm clothing, tarps, and essential winter items—resources that become critical during extended periods of rain and cold. One of the most needed items was also one of the simplest: socks.

Thanks to generous donations from Ever Forward Club and BOMBAS, we were able to provide new socks to many individuals. Clean, dry socks are often overlooked, yet they play a huge role in comfort, health, and morale during winter months.

We were also grateful to receive lightly used clothing donations from the Lagunitas Community School community, demonstrating how schools and families can meaningfully support local outreach efforts.

Warmth Beyond Clothing

In addition to physical supplies, warmth came in other forms. Starbucks donated hot coffee, which volunteers served on-site. That simple cup offered more than heat—it created moments of conversation, care, and human connection in the middle of a difficult season.

Living the FUEL Values

This event reflected the heart of FUEL’s mission—Fun, Unity, Excellence, and Legacy. Even in wet conditions, there was laughter, teamwork, and mutual respect. Volunteers worked side by side, partners stepped up with generosity, and our unhoused neighbors were met with dignity rather than judgment.

A popup tent, donated socks, warm clothes, and hot coffee may seem small on their own, but together they created a moment of relief and hope during a challenging week.

Thank You to Our Community

We are deeply thankful to every volunteer, donor, and partner who helped make this winter distribution possible. Your support reminds us that community care doesn’t require perfection—just presence, compassion, and action.
